Bio

Harrison Graham Shulman (born January 5, 1987) is an American guitarist, composer, arranger, and music teacher. Harrison started his musical journey at the age of 13 when he began playing the guitar, but has been immersed in music to some capacity for as long as he can recall. 
From 2005 to 2009 Harrison attended the University of Vermont where he majored in jazz performance. It was at UVM that Harrison really found his niche as a guitarist of all styles. While he studied jazz, he found intererest in studying composition and arranging. With his education, he was able to compose new material to be a vehicle for him and his peers to improvise and express themselves. During his time at UVM Harrison lent his talents to numerous ensembles, bands, and studio sessions in both Vermont and New York. Upon leaving Burlington in the summer 2010, Harrison focused his energies to the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, Vermont by performing with his electric jazz quintet Mandarax, Project Organ Trio and the third installment of his tribute "Operation:" series by performing the works of Prince with his closest friends and musical peers in Burlington. 

Harrison has studied with Vermont guitar greats such as Joe Capps, Paul Asbell and has studied with New York guitarists Tosh Sheridan and Peter Bernstein. Harrison points to guitar greats such as Jim Hall, Grant Green, Leo Nocentelli, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Steve Cropper, Prince Wayne Krantz, Doug Martsch and Jimmy Page has his greatest influences. His musical influences range from these guitarists and other instrumentalist such as Wayne Shorter, David Byrne, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Allen Toussaint.
